Hey!
WARNING: If you haven't watched the season 5 finale of Game of Thrones, please exit! Unless you don't mind being spoiled :-)
Well, this season has definitely been a roller coaster of devastation but I will never be able to give up this series no matter how bad it becomes, simply because I'm hooked and overly attached to the characters.
For the season finale, the technical work and production was fantastic (as usual) but in terms of storyline and how the characters turned out at the end, it was just truly disappointing.
Let's begin with the more
redeeming factors first before diving into the disappointing parts:
1. Cersei's Walk of Shame
I count this as a redeeming point of the show because I've always hated how Cersei manipulates and screws everything up because of her selfishness. Since season 1, she has been such a nasty person. She is not even sorry for anything. There has been no guilt at all. I mean come on, she enjoyed Ned Stark's beheading, she clearly enjoyed watching Oberyn Martell's head explode in Mountain's hands (urgh I hate that guy) and she definitely doesn't care about what other people say about her incest with Jaime, she definitely doesn't care about what the Gods think as well, I mean, she practically lied in front of them to the High Sparrow.
But, the Walk of Shame was extremely embarrassing and saddening to watch. As much as I hate Cersei, it was quite sad for her. I mean, not only did she get locked up without food for like I don't know, weeks? She got her hair snipped off, her body tossed around and finally walking down naked, with her feet bleeding and everyone throwing shit at her. Well not literally shit, but nasty stuff at her and people flashing at her calling her very nasty names.
I felt bad for her, I really did. But I think she deserved it and the Walk of Shame really helped to balance out the evil she has done. So, I'm glad that karma came back around for her.
But I was quite scared after seeing a resurrected Mountain (Ser Gregor Clegane) who's the sworn knight of House Lannister. I am legit scared like, now that he's a zombie, I don't think he can ever be killed? I'm pretty sure Cersei will use the crap out of him oh dear. We'll see in season 6.
2. Myranda dies, Theon and Sansa escapes
YES. Theon Greyjoy is back. He is no longer the timid-stricken Reek anymore. He is also a character that I despised in the earlier seasons but after all that he's been through with the nasty and torturous Ramsay Bolton, I'm glad that he's had enough. So he pushed Myranda off the ledge and she fell to her death. It felt pretty awesome considering how Theon saved Sansa from getting shot by Myranda. After that, Theon and Sansa managed to escape the compound and I'm super excited for them because they are finally free of the Boltons.
3. Arya kills Meryn Trant
Seeing Meryn torture and rape little girls was so disgusting but, once Arya took off her mask, she transformed into such a badass. She used a small but sharp knife and stabbed Meryn in the eyes, skull, chest, stomach, and lastly, slitting his throat slowly.
Now for the disappointing parts:
1. Arya goes blind
So after the glorious murder of Meryn, Jaqen punishes her for killing someone who is related to her past because she was supposed to be ready to be a faceless man and not someone who still clings on to her past. So in return, Arya starts to lose her vision and went blind.
2. Stannis' failure to claim Winterfell
So after Stannis found out that half of his men fled the camp with his horses, he still decided to carry on to Winterfell. It was such a dumb move. Plus, his wife, Selyse hung herself from a tree. Aren't these signs that he should stop trying to invade and go back to the Wall??? He should have listened to Davos way earlier when he told him they wouldn't be able to survive the winter without enough supplies. Thank God he's alive and well at the Wall. But Stannis dies in the hands of Brienne. What a twist.
Also, Melisandre fled to the Wall as well. But this will be continued with the next point.
3. JON SNOW DIES
The last scene ends with Jon Snow lying in a pool of blood after being stabbed multiple times by his 'brothers' of the Night's Watch. He was lured by his squire, Olly, to his death. They all really disliked him because of forming allies with the Wildlings.
I was so sad... Why can't they see that he's trying his best to get more living humans to fight the White Walkers... Probably because they haven't seen the frightening army of White Walkers.
Additional points:
So after he dies, I was quite worried as to what will happen to his body? Half of me thought, maybe a the Night's King will appear and raise him as a White Walker.. Considering how the Night's King was staring at him so fondly in episode 8. But the other half of me thought maybe Melisandre will raise him from the dead because after all, Stannis is dead and Jon Snow is probably Azor Ahai and is the only one that can save the world from being taken over by the White Walkers.
The writers cannot simply let Jon Snow die without coming back. He is such an important character so I'm positive he will come back to life.
Anyway, I didn't include everything. Like Dany being deserted on the Great Grass Sea (???) and being surrounded by tribal people on horses (possibly the Dothraki people? brings back memories doesn't it). Tbh, she shouldn't have took a stroll without Drogon by her side, you never know if they are friends or foe.
Also, Myrcella is probably at the brink of death after being kissed (poisoned) by Ellaria Sand. Myrcella is so innocent though, but because of what her mother has done, she has to face the consequences.
Conclusion:
Overall, this season has been a very eventful one but the finale wasn't as epic as the previous seasons. But all in all, I still enjoyed it. I really hope Dany claims more power and Jon Snow comes back to life. Also, Bran Stark needs to come back in season 6 with his three-eyed raven stuff. His power is really useful.
Hmm... I wonder what Ramsay will do after he finds out his pet Reek and his wife Sansa escaped. Plus his mistress dead. Shit is going to go down man.
But yeah, hope you enjoyed this season as much as I did but I really hope the good characters finally gets a more happier life? But yeah, this is Game of Thrones, everything is unexpected. So, let's brace ourselves for season 6 that's coming out in the winter :-) !
Cheers,
