Jun Ji Hyun (My Love from Another Star) inspired make-up !

Hey Fabulous!

Today I'll be doing a make-up tutorial inspired by Jun Ji Hyun who played Cheon Song Yi in the drama '별에서 온 그대' or also known as 'My Love from Another Star'. I'm so in love with this drama!!! Ok at first I was really attracted to the amazing digital and visual effects from the first episode. The inner media student in me had to come out and applaud them for their fantastic effects. Even if you don't have the time to watch the entire drama series, watch the first episode. You won't regret it.. and then you'll continue watching everything which is so sweet and captivating hurhur. This drama is not only a romance drama, it is also part fantasy and part thriller as well as it includes murder and supernatural powers. It is a must watch ^^!

My Love From the Star is a South Korean television series about an alien who landed on Earth 400 years ago
in the Joseon Dynasty, who then falls in love with a top actress in the modern era.

Alright so, what inspired me to fall in love with Ji Hyun's make-up in this drama was it's versatility to go with so many other hairstyles and looks. Cause' basically its just the emphasis on the lips. This look does not require too much time consuming eye make-up styles so its perfect for late or sick days and of course everyday use.

Ji Hyun is known to be Korea's natural beauty.

As you can see, her skin is perfect and her make-up is very light with emphasis only on her lips. She usually uses hot pink (which is very trendy in Korea right now)  or red on her lips!

Let's get started!

1. Moisturize

Moisturizing is very important because in order to achieve Ji Hyun's dewy and smooth skin, there has to be moisture and hydration. Always remember, beautiful make-up starts with beautiful skin.

Chia Seed range from The Face Shop
Toner, essence and eye cream
Vaseline cherry lip moisturizer

Applying lip balm for my super dry lips

2. Conceal

I always believe that concealing comes before foundation or BB/CC creams because you have to correct the colour of that area to your natural skin tone before you layer more products on top of it. Usually, Koreans use BB/CC creams that are one shade lighter than their skin tone, so if you conceal after you have applied the cream, it will look patchy and darker than the rest of the face most of the time.

Using The Face Shop's two sided concealer

Dot the liquid concealer around the dark eye circle first
Blend it out with your finger to provide some warmth for the product to melt into your skin.

Using the stick side, conceal all the problem areas
You can use a sponge or your fingers to blend it out

So a tip is to always purchase a concealer that is close to your skin tone because the lighter it is, the harder it is to correct the colour of the blemish or dark eye circle.

3. BB cream

I've chose to use BB cream instead of foundation or CC cream because BB creams are somehow more lighter and natural compared to the other two. Foundation might be slightly thick and CC cream might be too bright and light. Ji Hyun also used minimal and natural base make-up :)
Etude House's Precious Mineral Bright Fit BB Cream
Dot the BB cream all over your face ^^
Use a wet sponge to blend it out. A wet sponge is good for applying the right amount of foundation
or bases because it will not absorb too much of the product before it gets onto your face.
Don't forget the inner corners of your nose!

Hurhurrr
4. Powder

Using a sheer colourless loose powder, powder your entire face for a matte effect. But be careful not to use too much because we still want to keep the dewy effect!

Shu Uemura's sheer colourless loose powder and a fluffy brush

Apply the loose powder to the T-zone area because that is usually the oiliest part of the face.

5. Bronzer

Even though Ji Hyun's make-up looks really effortless, there are still so many steps to achieve her look. She has bronzed the outer 3 of her face to create a smaller face effect. But actually she's already so pretty :')

Elf's cool bronzer, an angled brush and a fluffy brush
I'll be using the medium brown shade for a more natural effect
Contour the areas with the outline :)
Apply bronzer to the outer '3' of the face.

1. Around the hairline
2. Below your cheek bones
3. Your jawline
It will give a natural glow to your face :)
Since Ji Hyun has such as high nose, time to contour our noses!

6. Highlight

As Ji Hyun has a naturally high nose and a beautiful face shape, it is essential to highlight the high points of our face which includes the
  1. lower part of the forehead,
  2. nose bridge,
  3. cheek bones and
  4. cupid's bow
  5. brow bone later during the eye make-up
The Face Shop's Shimmer Blusher, elf's angled brush and eco's fluffy brush
Using the highlight colour of this blush palette
1. Lower forehead
2. Nose bridge
3. Cheek bones

4. Cupid's bow
7. Blusher

Use a peach or pink colour to create a natural sweet look.

The Balm's Frat Boy blusher
Peachy pink tone
Smileeee and apply at apples of the cheek :)

8. Eye brows

Ji Hyun's eye brows are very natural and somehow not very tightly trimmed so don't worry about not having neat eyebrows! Just use some brown eye brow shadow to fill it in and it's all good!

Using a dark brown eyebrow shadow from NYX: Waiting for tonight palette
Does not have to be too neat because Ji Hyun's eyebrows aren't ^^
Hurhur

9. Eye primer

Priming the eyes will make the eye make-up last longer and for the colour to show better.
Elf's eye primer

Take note to put only one layer because if there's pore than a layer your eyeshadow might look clumpy

10. Eye shadow

A basic brown eye shadow (matte or shimmery is fine ^^) will be sufficient as it adds a natural contour.

Cyber Colors' Gemstone natural eyeshadow palette
Cosmetica's double ended eyeshadow brush
Using the pearl brown eyeshadow
Here's a swatch :)
Using the normal eyeshadow end to apply the colour

Use the blending side to blend the eyeshadow so there's no harsh line

Not very obvious but yes, natural ^^. It looks more beige bronze in real life :)

11. Eye highlight

Highlight the T-zone (brow bone and centre of eyelid) of your eye :)

Using the same highlight colour from the blush palette
Highlight the brow bone
Highlight the centre of the eyelid for more 3D effect :)

12. Eyeliner

Use a dark brown eyeliner to tight line your eyes as it is less harsh and more natural than black. Refrain from using liquid eyeliner as it creates a harsh line and for this look, Ji Hyun's eyes are very gentle and soft so a pencil eyeliner or gel will be great :)

Maybelline's Masterliner in brown

Tightline the upper eyelid for more natural finish
Don't wing out too much for this look
Do the same for the other eye :)

13. Mascara

Remember to curl your lashes first ^^
Brush off the excess formula from the brush as too much of the formula will cause clumps in your eyelashes. Try to make it as natural as possible :)

Shu Uemura's Tokyo Lash Mascara. It lengthens the lashes without clumping.
Shu Uemura's Karl Lagerfeld limited edition red curler ^^

Just apply one coat to hold up the lashes :)

14. Lips! (Most important)

Use a hot pink lipstick as base, and then layer it with a glossier pink lipstick or gloss. Ji Hyun has wore hot pink on her lips most of the time in this drama.

Sephora's hot pink lip stick. Forgot the code ><
Maybelline's Watershine PR31
Using the Sephora hot pink lipstick first because its dryer and more firmer for a base

If you like a matte of non-glossy finish, you can stop here because the hot pink is sufficient :)
But for Ji Hyun's look, her lips her glossy so I'll go ahead with another layer
Using Maybelline's moisturizing watershine hot pink lipstick, layer it on top of the first layer
As it is more moisturizing, it gives just the right amount of shine ^^
DONE ^^ !

Now for the before and after shots!

BEFORE
AFTER ^^
And that's all for today's Ji Hyun inspired make-up look! Had so much fun doing this hurhur. Will definitely post up more make-up inspirations and looks. For the next beauty post I'll probably focus on colour eye make-up :). Hope you enjoyed this post and learnt something new!

Just had to post another hair picture hurhurhur
